“I didn’t do it Officer!”- Traffic Ticket Myths De-bunked

Posted by Debo Hobo under: Travel-General .

Get your motor runnin’, Get out on the highway…road travel is can be fun, revitalizing and an adrenaline rush for the speed freaks of the road. I am among the speed demons of the world and for a long time I owned a red hot, Mazda RX7 with speeds topping out at 110 to 115. Tickets included speeding, no seat belt and illegal lane changes. Gosh I miss the intrigue and sexiness of that car.

An article written by Craig Guillot for Bankrate.com debunks many traffic ticket myth floating around out there.

Myths like

  • Officers ticket more red car drivers, I believe it to be true I haven’t gotten any tickets since.
  • If I don’t sign the ticket then I can beat the ticket. Actually chances are you could be thrown in jail in Texas. What are the local laws in you area? Signing it only says you received the ticket and will show up for your promised day in court.
  • Or how about this one, I can make up an excuse to get out of this ticket. (ladies you know what I’m talking about). Well most officers aren’t interested in excuses and the more you say the more he/she will have on you when you appear in court. Being cute is useful in most situation in life, beating a ticket on the side of the road is not one of them. In fact if an officer asks you if you know why he/she pulled you over the answer should always be “no”.

Read Craig’s article and be sure you are up to date on the laws of your local jurisdiction and the jurisdiction you may be traveling to. Another myth, if I break a traffic law in a state I am not a resident of my home state won’t know. Read the article get your facts straight.

What traffic ticket nightmare have you experienced? Was this info helpful?
