MIT student arrested, says it was just art and wanted to show it off. The AP reports:
BOSTON – An MIT student wearing what turned out to be a fake bomb was arrested at gunpoint Friday at Logan International Airport and later claimed it was artwork, officials said.
Star Simpson, 19, had a computer circuit board and wiring in plain view over a black hooded sweat shirt she was wearing, said State Police Maj. Scott Pare, the commanding officer at the airport.
“She said that it was a piece of art and she wanted to stand out on career day,” Pare said at a news conference. “She claims that it was just art, and that she was proud of the art and she wanted to display it.”
I say lock her up for a couple of years. What do you think?

I agree with you, Debo Hobo. She ought to be locked up for just being a “smart a$$.” She knew exactly what she would cause with that “art.” She is lucky she didn’t get shot. And of all airports to try this stunt. On eof the 9/11 planes took off from Logan.

Tough call, College Criminal or College prank?
MIT is noted for high-tech pranks on campus, maybe Star’s digital brains were not programmed right for off campus humor?
Either way looks like the Troopers made her “Socket to me” dream come true!

That’s pretty typical for MIT, although I don’t know why you’d wear that into Logan (of all airports…)

I think her lawyer needs to have a cell right next to her for saying authorities overreacted.

In the article, the police major says “Had she not followed the protocol, we might have used deadly force.” Question is, if it had been an actual bomb, would shooting her have been the best plan? What if the bomb was rigged with a dead man’s switch? Guess it would be a tough call in such a situation.

Stupid woman. And an MIT student at that. How could she not even have been aware of the widespread alarm and fear she could have caused, the danger she put herself and others in, given the fact that there are enough crazy people out there who could easily have done the same thing, and with real bombs too! A totally irresponsible and unthinking act this was.
And she wants to explain it away by saying it was just art?

bloggo-You can give them books but can’t make them learn. This one is definitely book smart however commone sense eludes her.
dcr-she is lucky the authorities have lost interest in the glamour of terror and that they are settling back into their previously lazy and oblivious nature,
