Whether you fancy gumbo in Materie LA., a Chocolate Show in New York or the Kona Cultural Festival in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii fall is the perfect season to stroll, relax and take in the sights of these 9 Fantastic Food Festivals. In autumn there’s no better way to enjoy the harvest season than by enjoying great food, wine and seasonal shows.

Here are two that just may end up on my Weekend Getaway list

  • Metairie, La.: Bucktown Seafood Festival
    Oct. 26 – 28

You’ll go hungry if you don’t eat fish at the Bucktown Seafood Festival in Metairie. Local vendors provide food from gumbo, fried catfish, boiled shrimp and creamy crawfish bisque to frutti di mare at the St. Louis King of France School.

Alongside the gastronomic delights and music from local bands is a huge selection of activities for kids, none of which seem to involve fish, with bingo, an inflatable obstacle course and paintball at the top of the list.

  • Specialty Roast Coffee Co.

  • Kailua-Kona, Hawaii: Kona Coffee Cultural Festival
    Nov. 2 – 11
Tour farms, participate in a contest for picking coffee beans and sample plenty of delicious fresh coffee.

The town of Kailua gives its name to the coffee liqueur. Most of America’s coffee farms are located in the vicinity, and during this coffee festival visitors can tour farms, participate in a contest for picking coffee beans and sample plenty of delicious fresh coffee.

This is Hawaii’s oldest food festival, with a wonderful parade at the end of the week. Most events are free once you’ve purchased a “button,” which costs about $2 and can be bought at all the major events and at various stores all over Kona.

Events include the Kona Coffee Recipe Contest, a golf tournament, the Ikebana Floral Display and the Kona Association for the Performing Arts Council Concert in the Park.

Awesome. Somewhere in Metairie… I used to perform somewhere there every year. It’s only a few minutes away from downtown NOLA. Next trip, I will have to visit this festival! :D
