How to Avoid Air Rage

Posted by Debo Hobo under: General; Travel Tips-General; Travel-General .

It’s out there and it can be worse than road rage, probably because there isn’t a vehicle to separate both parties. I myself have been a party to air rage (don’t get me started on my road rage issues). Air rage usually hits me when people stand on the people mover! Look if you are going to stand on the people mover then stand to the right and let us moving people walk on the left as stated in the obvious signage.

But, since there’s no reason to expect things to get better at the airport any time soon, here are a couple of tips for a clean getaway every time you pass through an airport:

1. Pay the lowest price possible. Unless you are in business or first class, the treatment you receive isn’t going to vary one whit whether you paid a little or a lot for your ticket. Much of the mail I receive from airline professionals complaining about passengers includes comments such as: “People want to pay next to nothing for a ticket, and then expect service!” Well, we don’t set the prices; we just pay them. And we don’t expect that much service either, just not browbeating, scolding and general unpleasantness. If we’re all going to be painted with the same cheapskate brush, we may as well not pay a lot for it.

2. Avoid human contact. Like some kung fu master, your skills of evasion and avoidance will trump debating and argumentative tactics every time. More to the point, if you don’t interact with anyone who can mistreat you, you can’t be mistreated. Check in online, check your bags at a kiosk for minimal exposure, board swiftly and silently, and BYO whatever it is that will get you through the flight.

It really doesn’t matter where you sit, I really like the video screens where you can choose your own film. That really makes the time go by quickly.

I totally agree with you about flying as cheaply as possible and the service being no different. That is sooo true. Thanks for commenting at Charmed & Dangerous. I love the name Obadiah. (did I spell that right?) Anywhoooo, I hope you’ll become a regular visitor.

Have a beautiful day, love your blog. Great info!

Sounds like air rage can be pretty serious nowadays. I would hate to sit next to a snorer or a chatty person.

Luckily, I’m a fan of both your tips. Thanks.

i myself have been spared so far from witnessing air rage or even being one.

too true of the ticket price. that’s why we always wait for the promotional fare to pop up before making plans.

Lina-I am glad you have not been subject to the rudeness in the airport. Believe me it just adds stress to a trip like you would not believe.

Beth-they are really useful ideas, thanks

David- I sat next to an older lady and she fell asleep and leaned on my shoulder. I just didn’t have the heart to move or get upset. She was just tired not being rude.

Dariana-Yes, you spelled it correctly he was born in the late 1800’s. Can you believe that? What an ancient name.

My cure for Air Rage is to prepare yourself for a Doctor’s visit! Arrive on time and wait, and wait, and wait… eventually you will get the treatment you needed!

Debbie-that is so funny, Ehy is it that the Dr. requires you make an appointment but you have to wait to see the doc. And why is it when you forget or don’t cancel within 24hrs. they charge you for the visit anyway. Docs have got it made…
