How Do You Measure Happiness?

March 14, 2008 by: Debo Hobo

Alex Shalman has designed an interesting group writting project which he has designated the Happiness Project. It began with a series of interviews with thirty four individuals such as John Chow, Dr. Joe Dimaggio, Tim Ferris and others. Alex has opened the project up to all that have an opinion on what happiness means to them. The interview consists of five questions pertaining to happiness.

I am excited to participate in this project because it provides the opportunity to re-focus on that which is important-my happiness. I hope you take a moment to participate in the group writting project and discover for yourself the benefits of analyzing your current state of happiness.

The Questions Are:

1. How do you define happiness?

I define happiness as a singular moment when joy and calm occupy the same space. A moment in time that is so perfect and I don’t have to worry about it being revoked.

2. On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your happiness now, versus when you were a child?

I would rate it an 8, because I now know not to seek happiness in all things but to be selective and wait for the happy moments and not try to create happy moments where it is clearly not possible.

3. What do you do on a daily basis that brings you happiness? (and how consistent is the feeling of happiness throughout your day)

I workout, excercise, eat well and take care of me, myself and I first then find ways to bring happiness to others.

4. What things take away from your happiness? What can be done to lessen their impact or remove them from your life?

I have learned that waiting for others to bring me happiness takes away from my overall happiness.

5. What do you plan on doing in the future that will bring you even more happiness?

Be true to myself and my overall well being.

Well that’s it -I am happy I participated in Alex’s project and again I hope you do as well.
