Wild about Coastal Seafood

Posted by Debo Hobo under: Food; Weekend Getaways .

Forget the frills and go for flavor. Grilled, broiled, fried, raw—however you like it, these places represent the highest standards in lowbrow dining.

crab.jpgWhilst I was in Connecticut this weekend I had the joyous opportunity to dive into some of the freshest seafood one can get their hands on. With Texas being land locked the seafood served boarders a bit on the suspect side for my tastes but is edible none the less I suppose, but back to my trip to CT. I arrived on Friday evening around dinner time so my sister and I immediately headed to the Maine Fish Market & Restaurant. The building is a large wood shingled structure with the rustic and warn look that is prominent in that region of the country. Once inside we were amazed at how large the interior actually was, because from first glance from outside one would think it to be much smaller.

We were quickly seated in one of the very spacious dinning areas and were treated to a seafood feast beyond belief. Unfortunately after having traveled all day literally-due to a missed flight due to weather etc.- my eyes were bigger than my stomach and I ordered like there was no tomorrow. The service was prompt and polite and the food arrived to our table hot and pleasing to the eye.

My dinner included 2lbs. of steamer clams, 12 littleneck clams on the half shell, a steamed lobster, potatoes, mixed veggies, bread, a salad and 2 Cosmopolitan cocktails, and water. The bill for my dinner alone hovered in the mid 60’s. Oh I ate as much as I could and brought the remainder home and snacked on it for the remainder of the evening. Like I said Texas is land locked and I was only in town for the weekend, I just could not resist.

We did some shopping on Saturday at the usual places; however I did find a great bargain on some summer dress-4 for $55.

After some very light shopping we had lunch at a Columbian restaurant where I had a lighter fare of sea scallops served over jasmine rice with pineapple and coconut milk. It was a bit too sweet for me so as with most of my meals I brought it home and finished it over the course of the day.

Sunday I packed up and headed back to Texas via Southwest Airlines. Although I enjoy visiting home in Connecticut I always, always love coming home to Texas.

So now I’m really going to have to find that cheap flight…

Vancouver might be a coastal city but seafood is never cheap around here.

They actually sell frozen seafood in the ice cream freezers at the gas stations in Wisconsin. It’s really a gross concept to me. I used to live in Ct. - many many years ago. Oh well- I m jealous, not of you being in Ct. but of the seafood.

Now I’m officially hungry for seafood! The best seafood that I ever had was in Cape Cod Mass. There is nothing like fresh seafood.

Sharon-Seafood is cheap everywhere compared to the prices in Texas. I would imagine the Alaskan and Pacific Salmon is simply deliciouso!

Hi Awake in Rochester- the Maine Lobster is to die for as well, I could eat seafood everyday if I had the option.

And now I’m hungry. Thanks a LOT!
But seriously, those just look way too good. Yummy…

Now I need to go to the beach, although Pacific seafood isn’t as good as Atlantic.
