The Power Nap Reinvented The Body Reenergized

November 22, 2008 by: Debo Hobo

Nap26 Rolando and I were discussing ideas to cure the mid afternoon grogginess. That part of the day shortly after lunch when you still have a few more hours of work yet to do at the office. You find yourself yawning and zoning out, and heaven help us if meetings are on the agenda.

I am a firm believer in the Nap. I take a daily nap when I ge home from work for 20 minutes and a 2 hour nap on the weekends. That is one of my secrets to staying and looking young. But sometimes that is not always possible, particularly the weekend nap. So what is one to do?

A month or so ago I purchased Nap26, but never had the opportunity to use. That was until yesterday after work. My sister and I go to happy hour once in a while and she was running about 30 minutes late. So, I waited outside the restaurant in my car. Bingo! The opportunity presented itself. So, I whipped out my Ipod and ear plugs, pressed play.

Here’s what Nap26 states you will experience:

Wake up feeling refreshed, energized, and ready to go! POWRNAPS ® uses Binaural Beat Technology to train the brain to relax and to awaken without risk of grogginess. Fight sleep deprivation with our natural sleep aids and have the energy you need during the day to accomplish what you need.

A scientific digital modulation process inserts precise pulses and beats that the brain hears. The difference in vibration between one ear and the other stimulates either deeper relaxation or alertness. You will feel like you slept for 3 hours in 26 minutes.

Here is my experience with the product:
Because I was in a parking lot at sunset I was not in the most relaxed state, but I did derive some benefit.

There is a small bit of narration at the beginning of the session instructing you to actively listen during your PowerNap. Then a rainstorm, a virtual down pour begins and in either ear you’ll hear the sound of softly beating drums of sort. It truly was relaxing. Unfortunately every time someone walked past my vehicle there would be a variation in sun light and I my eyes would pop open. So obviously this is not recommended for use in a public place, but definitely in the office if you can close your door. Or I can even see myself using this product while traveling for instance on the plane or in the hotel room in between touring activities.

Listening to the rain pouring down brought me back to memories of childhood as I “napped”. Memories of the rain drops thudding their way through the canopy of leaves that hovered over the house. Aaah so peaceful.

In the last minute or so of the Nap26 “nap” the rain begins to subside and tiny little birds begin to chirp and whistle a pretty little bird tune. A clear indication that “nap” time is coming to an end.

When all of a sudden that creepy narrative voice blasts in to say “Time to wake up, your “nap” is over”. That threw my body into such a jarred state that I banged my knee on the staring wheel, and yelled “What the F-Hell!” “You gotta be kidding me!”

Okay with that startle behind me, my sister arrived and we went inside to meet up with our friends. And honestly folks I truly felt rested. Rested like I had taken an actual deep sleep nap. I just hope they remove the creepy narrator voice at the end of the “nap” in their next release. Outside of that I definitely recommend this product. Happy “Napping”.

FYI: I quotationed “nap” because if you have to actively listen then you aren’t actively sleeping. Also, this is not a paid or sponsored review of the Nap26 product. I have not been compensated in anyway. The opinions expressed are my own and you should try the product for yourself.

I’ve had good luck with a tape called “thunderstorm.” It chills me out, and lets me take a wonderful nap. It cost ~9.00, and I’ve had it since 1994. I enjoyed reading about your experience with Nap26!

I used to have an alarm clock that used nature sounds as the alarm. I ditched it because the sounds were way too digital and artificial.

That is an interesting sounding idea. I think naps are a great idea and waking to birds chirping is much preferable than an alarm clock buzzing or a boss walking in on you. LOL.

Napping is a very good idea. Sometimes all you need is just 10 minutes to get you fully energized to tackle the day.

I work from home and my hours are quite erratic starting so early and ending so late. So, at noon, I always make a point to sleep for an hour to get me all ready to tackle the afternoons.

  4. Rarely can I take a nap during the day. I don’t know why, it doesn’t matter how tired I am, how sleep deprived I am, my mind just goes 100 mph during the day. I bought a meditation type cd with the ocean, rain etc, the bonehead talked thru 90% of it. I couldn’t believe it. All I could think of was “shut up buddy!” it was aggravating, not relaxing…

Like I was telling Sharon, I don’t think I would trust myself to take a short nap. Knowing me I could quite possibly sleep the day away.

Thanks for dropping by and your kind words.

I know what you’re saying- I have made a short nap into a 3 hour marathon before… I don’t nap everyday. But it is cool to work at home, because if you really really have to because your eyes start zoning out you can. Try that in the office and you just might get fired. Of course I have fired myself like 5 or 6 times now, but I just keep coming back!

The Europeans and central Americans have it with their concept of siesta. Much the idea of nap time but a professional product to help you do it – what will they think of next?
